Poetry State Forest (2008)

Poetry State Forest is “an unruly but characteristically joyous book of everyday transcendence,” according to Publishers Weekly, which captures Mayer in all her variety. Mostly set in Mayer’s rural New York home, the book is chock-full of nature imagery, sonnets, experimental prose poetry, medleys, and epigrams.

Poetry State Forest is an invitation into Mayer's world. She writes, “I know where & when to find the berries / i even have a forest / small / the poetry state forest (...) / anyway come and join me / come over for lunch”. Mayer's readers will find themselves at home in the setting and the "lively unpredictable richness" of her poems.
